Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

Kanchipuram is famous for festivals. Sri Maragatham used to go to the Varadarajar (Vishnu) temple every day with her child Seshadri, to have the darshan of Lord Vishnu. As it was the start of the festival of Vaisakhi, traders from various parts of Thondai Mandalam gathered near the Lord Varadaraja Perumal temple, there to sell their items.

One of the traders was selling bronze idols of Navaneetha Krishna (the child Lord Krishna, who was known to be so naughty that he enjoyed stealing butter!)

Little Seshadri who happened to come there with his mother, placed his hands in the heap of the idols and picking up an idol of Lord Navaneetha Krishna, pleaded with his mother to buy it for him.

Seeing this, the trader said that he had just started the sales, when the child resembling Lord Krishnamurthy Himself, placed his hand on the idols. He was so moved by the gesture of the child that he did not take any money. He asked the mother to take one of the idols and give it to the child. Seshadri was extremely happy. Having got the idol, they proceeded to offer prayer to Lord Varadaraja Perumal.

The next day, when they were on the way to the temple with some relatives they chanced to cross the same shop again. As they neared the shop the trader suddenly prostrated himself before the young boy Seshadri, much to everyone’s surprise!

He held child Seshadri’s hands to his eyes, and cried in elation, “My Golden Hand! My Golden Hand!”

He continued, “Amma, this godly baby Krishna was the first to touch my idols and one thousand idols were sold in no time. Never have I been able sell more than a hundred idols a day. This lad is my Krishnamurthy with a golden hand!” Saying this, he shook Seshadri’s hands again and again with love, devotion and ecstasy.

Seshadri was given the title by the people of the Kanchipuram, “The One with the Golden Hand.”
